At your appointment, we will complete a physical examination of your teeth and then take X-rays if required. Your appointment will then be followed by a thorough cleaning where we will scale off any plaque and buildup, clean your teeth and finish off with a polish. You’ll also have a gentle fluoride application at the end of your clean.
By seeing us every six months for your dental checkup and clean, you’re setting your smile up for a long healthy life. This is because we’ll be able to identify any concerns early on, preventing them from worsening over time or leading to more serious conditions.
Our team of dental professionals will assess each of your teeth and gum tissue. We’ll even scan around your mouth for oral cancer, ensuring you have a thorough dental examination.
When you visit our practice, we will demonstrate proper tooth brushing and flossing techniques. We recommend brushing your teeth with a soft bristle toothbrush, in a gentle circular motion. If you use an electric toothbrush, also try to use a soft brush-head and gentle pressure.
A lot of patients are mistaken on how hard to press down on their teeth with their toothbrush. It’s common for people to use too much pressure and cause gum recession and damage to the gum line. We’ll show you how to brush properly at your check up and clean appointment.
We also recommend flossing once a day. Water flossers can also be a great alternative to traditional floss, making it easy to get in tight or difficult areas.
How long should my appointment take?
Your checkup and clean appointment will typically go for 45-60 minutes. If you’re a new patient, you’ll be asked to complete a new patient form when you arrive.
When you come in for a checkup and clean, we will assess your teeth and gums before proceeding with the clean. If you have a noticeable amount of plaque, we will remove this during your thorough cleaning. Your teeth will feel clean and fresh when you leave!
We will also demonstrate proper tooth brushing and flossing exercises, so you can keep your smile in great condition.
